The journal encourages submissions employing quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-method approaches, with emphasis on methodological rigor, theoretical grounding, and clear contributions to educational research and practice. AJPE particularly supports studies that engage with global conversations in education, including innovation, equity, sustainability, and digital transformation.

Peer Review Policy and Workflow

AJPE enforces a rigorous, independent, and double-blind peer-review process for all submitted manuscripts to guarantee the highest scholarly quality and ethical integrity.

  1. Initial Editorial Desk Review & Ethics Screening

Upon submission, all manuscripts undergo an initial administrative check by the Editorial Desk. This stage includes structural verification against the Author Guidelines and a mandatory plagiarism screening utilizing institutional detection software. Manuscripts that do not align with the journal's focus, lack sufficient academic rigor, or violate similarity thresholds are rejected at this stage without entering external review. Authors are typically notified of the desk decision within 4–8 weeks.

  1. Double-Blind External Review

Manuscripts passing initial triage are anonymized (all author details and institutional affiliations are completely removed) and routed to a minimum of two (2) independent external reviewers. Reviewers are selected based on their specific research expertise within the field of education. To prevent institutional bias and conflicts of interest, external reviewers are chosen from organizations outside of Far Eastern University (FEU) and, where applicable, outside the author's home country to support geographic diversity.

Reviewers evaluate submissions based on originality, methodological soundness, theoretical framework grounding, contribution to educational policy or practice, and engagement with contemporary international literature. The standard review cycle takes approximately 8–12 weeks.

  1. Editorial Decision Framework

Reviewers provide comprehensive feedback and submit one of the following recommendations to the editorial desk:

  • Accept Submission (as is)
  • Revisions Required (minor structural or textual improvements)
  • Resubmit for Review (major revisions requiring a subsequent round of external evaluation)
  • Decline Submission (rejection based on fundamental flaws or limited contribution)

The final authority regarding acceptance, revision requests, or rejection rests entirely with the Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Board, guided by the reviewers' evaluations. In cases of conflicting reviewer assessments, a third independent evaluator is assigned to break the deadlock.

  1. Confidentiality & Accountability

The peer-review process is strictly confidential. Reviewers are required to treat manuscripts as privileged documents and are prohibited from sharing, citing, or exploiting the data prior to publication. Correspondence regarding revisions is managed entirely through the AJPE Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform to preserve double-blind anonymity.

Publication Frequency

AJPE is published biannually, with issues released in April and October. The journal follows a continuous submission model, accepting manuscripts throughout the year. All submissions undergo a structured editorial and peer review process to ensure timely and consistent publication.

AJPE is committed to maintaining strict publication regularity and schedule adherence, recognizing consistency as a critical factor in journal credibility, author trust, and eligibility for international indexing. Special issues may also be published to address emerging themes and high-impact research areas, further strengthening the journal’s relevance and scholarly contribution.

Publication Fee

AJPE operates under a Diamond Open Access model, ensuring that there are no fees at any stage of the publication process.

Specifically:

  • ❌ No submission fees
  • ❌ No article processing charges (APCs)
  • ❌ No publication fees

All editorial, peer review, and publication services are provided free of charge to authors.

AJPE is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics, academic integrity, and transparency in scholarly publishing. The journal promotes ethical conduct among authors, reviewers, and editors throughout all stages of the publication process.

All submitted manuscripts must be:

  • Original and unpublished;
  • Not under consideration by another journal or publication outlet;
  • Properly cited and referenced; and
  • Free from plagiarism, self-plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, and other forms of academic misconduct.

AJPE utilizes plagiarism detection software and editorial screening procedures to evaluate the originality of submitted manuscripts. Manuscripts found to contain substantial plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabricated data, or other ethical violations may be rejected, returned for revision, or retracted if already published.

The journal upholds ethical standards concerning:

  • Authorship and contributorship;
  • Data integrity, accuracy, and transparency in reporting;
  • Disclosure of conflicts of interest;
  • Ethical treatment of research participants;
  • Compliance with applicable institutional and legal research requirements; and
  • Responsible use of artificial intelligence and digital technologies in research and writing.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their research has been conducted ethically and, where applicable, has received appropriate ethics approval and informed consent from participants.

Editors and reviewers are expected to maintain confidentiality, impartiality, professionalism, and objectivity throughout the review process. Editorial decisions are based solely on the scholarly merit, originality, relevance, and quality of submitted manuscripts.

When allegations of ethical misconduct arise, AJPE reserves the right to investigate the matter and take appropriate actions, including requesting corrections, issuing expressions of concern, retracting published articles, or notifying relevant institutions when warranted.

AJPE is committed to fostering a culture of responsible scholarship and ethical research dissemination in support of the advancement of knowledge and educational practice.

Generative AI (GenAI) Policy

AJPE recognizes the growing use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools (e.g., large language models, AI image generators) in research and scholarly communication. The journal supports responsible, transparent, and ethical use of these tools in accordance with international publication standards and guidance from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

  1. Use of GenAI by Authors

Authors may use GenAI tools as support, not as a substitute for scholarly work. Acceptable uses include:

  • Language editing, grammar checking, and readability improvement
  • Structuring ideas or outlining drafts
  • Assisting with coding or data processing (with verification)

Unacceptable uses include:

  • Generating substantive content (e.g., results, analysis, or discussion) without critical human oversight
  • Fabricating or manipulating data, references, images, or findings
  • Producing content that is presented as original human-authored work without disclosure

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of their manuscripts.

  1. Disclosure Requirement

Any use of GenAI tools must be clearly and transparently disclosed in the manuscript. Authors should include a statement in the Acknowledgments or Methods section, specifying:

  • The tool used (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, etc.)
  • The purpose of use
  • The extent of assistance

Failure to disclose the use of GenAI may be treated as a breach of publication ethics.

  1. Authorship and Accountability

GenAI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors. Authorship is limited to individuals who meet established authorship criteria and can take full responsibility for the work.

  1. Data Integrity and Verification

Authors must ensure that:

  • All outputs generated with GenAI are accurate, verified, and properly contextualized
  • Sources and references are real, traceable, and correctly cited
  • No fabricated (“hallucinated”) content is included

AJPE reserves the right to request original data or materials to verify the authenticity of submissions.

  1. Editorial Use of GenAI

Editors may use GenAI tools for administrative or language support purposes (e.g., drafting communications), but all editorial decisions are made through independent human judgment. GenAI is not used as a substitute for peer review or editorial evaluation.

  1. Ethical Compliance

All use of GenAI must comply with:

  • AJPE’s Publication Ethics Policy
  • International ethical standards, including COPE guidelines
  • Principles of transparency, accountability, and academic integrity

Any misuse of GenAI may result in:

  • Rejection of the manuscript
  • Retraction of published work
  • Notification of affiliated institutions, where appropriate
  1. Commitment to Responsible Innovation

AJPE supports the ethical integration of emerging technologies in research and education. The journal encourages scholarly work that critically examines the role of AI in education, while ensuring that its use in publishing remains transparent, responsible, and aligned with global standards.
